Bayonetta dev PlatinumGames signed up to work on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin because the studio were “huge fans” of the IP, according to Dan Prigg, the head of the newly re-announced Paramount Games Studio. Platinum was announced as the developer of the game in the Summer Game Fest showcase today.

Paramount’s new games business was announced shortly before. Paramount Games Studio had previously existed in various guises, most recently working on licenced products including a SpongeBob SquarePants activation for Roblox, but has now been retooled following the merger of Paramount and Skydance finalised in August 2025.

Prigg was previously head of Skydance Interactive, and is now executive vice president, head of games for Paramount. Platinum had expressed interest in the IP ahead of the merger, and his team were enthusiastic supporters. “I think they were huge fans,” Prigg told GamesIndustry.biz, “We kind of got wind of it, and this was right after the merger… this was one of those where it’s like, we have to make this. We have to do this game. How can we not do this game?”

“And so meeting with them, walking through it, looking at their ideas, this is one of those things where it’s like, how has this never happened before yet? The excitement of both sides was amazing. I think pre-merger that it wouldn’t have happened, but I think post-merger, we were in a place where we could really kind of help and evaluate and then push it upwards and say, “Look, this is why it makes sense for us to do as a company.”

With Platinum, Prigg said, the firm had “a great triple-A studio that is passionate about [our] IP, and that’s what we want to find from a studio perspective.”

Paramount Games Studio is the new home of Skydance’s two studios, Skydance Interactive and Skydance New Media, and will continue development of the previously confirmed titles Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra and an untitled Star Wars game, It will also work with external studios like Platinum to develop games based on Paramount IP, with more announcements expected shortly.

Our full interview with Prigg, discussing the foundation of Paramount Games Studio and its planned output, will be published on Monday.
