Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is off to a strong start on Steam, with around 100,000 concurrent players — more than any other title in the franchise to date.

Ubisoft’s ground-up remake of its beloved pirate adventure game currently has launch peak of 99,451 players at the time of writing, making it comfortably the series’ best ever launch on Steam.

By comparison, 2025’s feudal Japan-set Assassin’s Creed Shadows recorded a launch peak of 64,825 players, while the Ancient Greek-set Assassin’s Creed Odyssey earned 62,069. Not all Assassin’s Creed games have appeared on Steam at launch (the hugely-popular Viking entry Valhalla turned up later), so comparisons aren’t entirely straightforward.

Still, no other Assassin’s Creed game comes close to matching Black Flag’s early haul, which will likely prove a relief for publisher Ubisoft after a turbulent few years of layoffs, delays, and underwhelming sales.

Black Flag Resynced had been expected to perform well on Steam, after a report this week suggested pre-orders on the PC platform were 5.39 times higher than those for Shadows. Impressively, this also means that Resynced has already beaten the lifetime sales of Skull & Bones, Ubisoft’s costly, long-in-development pirate spinoff from Black Flag that eventually emerged in 2024.

“More than just a shinier version of the same game you remember, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced brings what was already one of the best games in the series up to today’s standards,” IGN wrote in our Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced review, dredging up a fine 9/10 score.
