IGN’s live reporting of San Diego Comic-Con 2026 continues, this time from the front row of the God of War Laufey panel. The action kicks off on Friday, July 24, at 5.30pm PT / 8.30pm ET / July 25 1.30am UK time, and we’ll be there delivering you all the news via updates below.
We’re expecting God of War Laufey game director Ariel Lawrence and Santa Monica Studio head of creative Cory Barlog to lead an in-depth conversation with the cast, including Deborah Ann Woll (Laufey), Chris Judge (Kratos), Jack Quaid (Phranque), and Perlina Lau (Rue). Sony has said the panelists will share new details about the heroes of God of War Laufey, including behind-the-scenes insights from development and the performance capture that brings each character to life.
While you wait, check out all IGN’s exclusive coverage of God of War Laufey from its reveal in June. We have Lawrence and Barlog discussing why the developer went with Faye as the main character this time instead of Kratos, and we’ve got an explainer on Faye herself if you need a catch-up on her story.
Meanwhile, on Friday, July 24 and Saturday, July 25, IGN will stream live from San Diego with A-list interviews, exclusive reveals, and live coverage of SDCC’s biggest panels and announcements. Our broadcast runs from 3pm PT / 6pm ET to 7pm PT / 10pm ET each day and streams across IGN platforms. Here’s our live show schedule.
Jack Quaid’s cube
Jack Quaid says he felt “at home” in the cube. “All cube related memories were amazing. Most of my time was in a voice over booth,” he adds.
Who is Faye?
Deborah Ann Woll says she would call Faye ‘Faye McClane,’ after John McClane from Die Hard. She is a “reluctant hero.” “Okay I’ll save the day and save the building while I’m at it,” she says.
“I always thought that Faye was the genesis of the change of Kratos,” Judge adds. “So much of the message in the first two games was about hope and forgiveness and being better. I think that all started with Kratos’ relationship with Faye. That’s where it began in him and what kept him going was ensuring that this wonderful life that we had created together would be better than the old man.”
The cast speaks…
After that bombshell, Deborah Ann Woll (Laufey) says she’s pinching herself that she gets to be on this panel at all. She says she hadn’t played video games in about 10 years. 2018’s God of War had just come out, and she spent all night watching it.
Chris Judge talks about getting the role of Kratos 13 years ago, and how reluctant he was at first. Perlina Lau (Rue) says she received an email from Sony to ask for a chat, and thought it was a scam. “I had a meeting with the casting team and then an audition and a chemsity test with Deborah then I heard nothing,” Lau says. “I’ll never forget I got in the car one weekend put my phone out saw the email headline. Saw the offer and threw my phone down. I was like omg I can’t tell anyone. It’s been pretty life changing.”
Jack Quaid (Phranque) says he’s been a PlayStation fanboy since Crash Bandicoot, and is a huge God of War fan. He “flipped out” when he was offered the role. “I’m on a Zoom with Cory and Ariel and they told me I’m gonna be a cube,” he says. “I’m like, ‘Okay!” When they say jump I ask how high.”
A new God of War game!
Cory Barlog kicked off the panel by announcing another God of War game, starring Kratos, that connects to God of War Laufey! It’s due out after Laufey. This is a huge surprise coming out of SDCC!
