The inaugural Gamescom Asia x Thailand Game Show saw 206,159 visitors from 95 countries across its four day schedule.
Taking place between October 16 and October 19 at Bangkok’s Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, the event broke Gamescom Asia and Thailand Game Show attendance records.
The two events merged earlier this year to “solidify Thailand’s position as a premier gaming hub in the Asian region,” the event organisers said.
Gamescom Asia x TGS’s business area saw 5,590 industry professionals from 81 countries, and featured 71 speakers across four stages.
There were 294 exhibitors and country pavilions at this year’s event, from developers including Bandai Namco, Capcom, HoYoverse, Konami, Sega, Ubisoft, Tencent, The Pokémon Company, and Xbox.
This year’s indie area showcased 62 titles, with over 200 playable games across its business and entertainment areas.
The Thailand Game Awards saw Sandfall Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 win four awards, while Bit Egg Inc.’s Lost and Found Co. won the Thai Game Award.
Veteran game designer Glen Schofield was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award, known for his work on Dead Space, Call of Duty, and The Callisto Protocol.
“This partnership [between Gamescom Asia and TGS] celebrates creativity, innovation, and community on a global scale,” the event’s organisers said.
“Under the theme ‘World of Gaming,’ we aim to elevate games and talent in Southeast Asia to the international stage while delivering world-class experiences to local audiences – positioning Thailand as a true Global Gaming Hub.”
Thailand’s Minister of Commerce Suphajee Suthumpun added: “I was deeply impressed to see both Thai and international game developers embracing the beauty of Thailand as the backdrop and characters in their games.”
“This is true soft power, allowing players around the world to experience Thai identity through the world of games. Throughout the Gamescom Asia x Thailand Game Show, business negotiations were conducted and generated over 1.22 billion THB ($37.2 million) in economic value, a figure that reflects Thailand’s enormous potential on the global stage.”
Gamescom Asia x TGS is set to return next year between October 29 and November 1.
