Apple has announced two new processors, the M6 and M5 Ultra, as well as updated Mac Mini and Mac studio machines powered by them. The new machines are already available for preorder directly from Apple, with shipping for most configurations starting on September 22nd, 2026. The Mac Mini starts at $899, $300 more than the M4-equipped base model from 2024, and the Mac Studio starts at $2,499, the same price as the current M4 Max model.

The announcement comes just a few weeks ahead of Apple’s usual timing for an annual iPhone event. The upgraded macOS computers focus on AI performance and improved connectivity, with Apple making a variety of claims about performance gains compared to the previous models. Make sure to check out our full announcement posts for the Mac Mini and Mac Studio for all the details.

How to preorder the Mac Mini

The Mac Mini with the M6 chip starts at $899 at Apple, while the version with the M5 Pro starts at $1,699. The previous generation Mac Mini only featured the M4 and M4 Max chips, so this represents a big upgrade for Apple’s most compact desktop. Aside from the processor upgrades, the new Mini has improved connectivity, notably sporting 2.5Gb Ethernet as a baseline, as well as Bluetooth 6 and Wi-Fi 7.

How to preorder the Mac Studio

The updated Mac Studio with the M5 Max chip (plus 36GB of unified memory and 512GB of storage) starts at $2,499 at Apple, while the M5 Ultra version with 96GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD starts at $5,499. While the base models will start shipping on September 22nd, the configurations with a whopping 512GB of RAM (price not yet announced) won’t be available until late October.
